Reflection on Enoch

Genesis 5:21-24. When Enoch had lived sixty-five years, he became the father of Methuselah. Enoch walked with God after the birth of Methuselah three hundred years, and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty-five years. Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him.

Hebrews 11: 5-6. By faith Enoch was taken so that he did not experience death; and “he was not found, because God had taken him.” For it was attested before he was taken away that “he had pleased God.”  And without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

How long would you like to live? Would you like to live long or live healthily? Both? The Bible character Enoch lived long and healthy for 365 years and was taken to heaven before he met death. I am sure we would all like to live long, enjoy good health, have less body and knee pain, and go for long walks with God. Enoch was a biblical figure prior to Noah’s flood. He was the son of Jared and the father of Methuselah. He was of the Antediluvian period in the Hebrew Bible. St. Paul helps us to understand the concept of walking with God in his note in the book of Hebrews. Paul says, “Enoch’s walk with God was a testimony that Enoch was well-pleasing to God.” As Christians, we are called to please God in our walks each day. What actions in our lives are pleasing to God? What actions do we know that are displeasing to God that we continue to do?
